Michael Gillespie
Michael Gillespie grew up in a house full of books and surrounded by woods. From an early age, he combined creativity and nature. The sweltering summer days were spent exploring the beach and mowing lawns. The cool fall afternoons were spent exploring the woods and building forts. The evenings were reserved for reading, for drawing little animals and beasts, and for inventing the stories to go with them. He went to Hoggard High School and then to Davidson College as an English Major. He worked in property management, then brokered commercial real estate, and then graduated from Charleston School of Law.
Michael claims a diversity of interests, from French horn to mandolin, from drawing with pastels to digital and VR. He enjoys an avid and playful Yoga practice. In 2010, Michael began writing fiction again. In 2011, after receiving pictures from his Aunt Mary and Uncle Gray of baby owls living in their backyard, he wrote his first children’s story, Whose Hoo?, which he illustrated and published in 2015. He completed the Nanowrimo novel writing challenges with The Outsider (2014) and The Healer (2015), two books of an envisioned trilogy, both as yet in editing. Starting in 2015 he helped Jim Gillespie prepare The Cabin (2017) for publication.
Michael has several children’s books in production, including The Moon and the Whippoorwill (2017), The Unremarkable Little Thing, Jazz Moles , The Fox and the Sloth: Let’s Go Big! (expected late 2017), and Game of Cones (expected early 2018). When not working, he paddleboards, practices yoga, explores the outdoors, and writes poetry and fiction.
